From Battonya to Szeged
We welcome you on Kígyó Street in the centre of Szeged. Many locals still call us the Rétesbolt – and our story began in Battonya, with a family rétes recipe.
The rétes shop in three moves
2007
Battonya
Magdi, a confectioner, was given a genuine family rétes recipe by a Hungarian–Romanian lady. After some experimenting she opened her rétes shop in Battonya.
2013
Szeged
Magdi followed her daughters to Szeged, and with their help the business moved from Békés county to Csongrád‑Csanád county. We opened the Szeged shop under the name Rétesbolt.
2017
Belvárosi Cukrászda – Rétesbolt
Gelato joined the selection, we opened the neighbouring rooms into one and changed our name: that is how we became Belvárosi Cukrászda – Rétesbolt.
Magdi and Nóra
We are a family business. Nóra has served our guests at the counter from the very first day, and in the kitchen she helps wherever she is needed. She also made her mother Magdi’s old dream come true: we make cakes to special order.
In the family business, Magdi and her daughter Nóra complement each other perfectly.

The room and the terrace
Drop in for a pastry, sit down for a coffee and a chat, or talk to us about a cake. From spring to autumn we welcome you on our terrace too.
Beyond the tempting selection at the counter, the Belvárosi Cukrászda – Rétesbolt in Szeged is worth a visit for its countryside atmosphere: the bright, large windows and white walls give the high-ceilinged room a pleasant mood.

Folded pastry, generous fillings
Ours is not the classic stretched rétes: we wrap generous fillings in folded puff pastry. We roll the pastry sheets by machine and make our own jams. A roll of about 60 cm gives six hefty slices.
